We are on our fourth and final technique.
Most clients on the spectrum, at least ones I have experienced working with, can have a hard time talking about topics that they’re not interested in which can make it difficult for them to join conversations and engage with other people.
Like we talked about previously, it’s good to start with the topics and interests they’re familiar with and like.
From that starting point, they can begin learning how to best communicate their special interests and move towards conversations with topics of other people’s interests!
My absolute favorite tool for this kind of transition work is the “Green Zone” book!
It has proven to be an incredible investment and tool for my clients, teaching them how to talk through their special interests vs. other people’s special interests.
With all that said, I want to end with one of my favorite quotes ~
“The more healthy relationships a child has, the more likely they will be to recover from trauma and thrive. Relationships are the agents of change and the most powerful therapy is human love.” ~ Bruce Perry
And that wraps up my teaching on Sandtray Across the Spectrum for this month!
Here’s to a great month and more to come!
