June 2025 Week 2

Do your adult clients ever get stuck while building and/or processing their sandtray?

As scary as that sounds, don't freak out!

It's normal and honestly a big part of the process, especially working with adults who aren't familiar with the practice.

This leads me to tip #3 - When stuck, always go back to the body!

And what I mean by this is that even when we feel stuck or unsure, our body knows and will let us know how it feels.

"Your body is a map of your life. It stores your memories, your joys, your sorrows, your traumas. And it also holds the key to your healing." ~ Bessel van der Kolk

I love this quote from the book, "The Body Keeps the Score" by Bessel van der Kolk. It is so amazing how much our bodies truly hold and how they function in such protective ways for us.

If you haven't read this book, I encourage to check it out! A great read + resource!!

And here is a PDF to remind you of phrases and prompts to use when stuck during sessions.

Tip #4 serves more as a reminder - The majority of the processing and healing phase doesn't even begin until AFTER the session. So don't feel discouraged or freak out! So much of the inner work happens outside the office, while they're living their lives and going about their day.

So again, don't freak out...trust! Trust who you are, what you know, and for the natural processing to unfold at its own pace.
